Today is world draws closer together, and an open society freely exchanging information and experience thus becomes top priority. Open and developed civil societies, which adhere to democracy, are more likely to refrain from initiating a military conflict or any unfriendly actions towards each other, and to use peaceful diplomatic ways for resolving any problems that may arise.

APO “Democratic Action”

All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Democratic Action” was created in 1998 as an independent nonprofit agency.

The organization aims to promote development of democratic transformations and tolerance in the society, to contribute to development of the market economy, to promote integration of Ukraine into the world community, to support development of democracy and supremacy of law, to protect human rights, to combat corruption, to strengthen constitutional freedoms and guarantees, to achieve social justice and social partnership, to implement the policy of gender equality, national unity and public accord, to develop the civil society in Ukraine, to develop the citizen diplomacy, to cooperate with international organizations, to extend European experience, standards and practices to Ukraine, to form the public opinion with regard to building a jural state, to develop new social mass media and to popularize European educational, scientific, youth and cultural programs in Ukraine.

By means of its enlightening, informing and training activities, the Democratic Action promotes traditional domains of protection of human rights, in particular building a jural state, freedom of worship, independence of mass media, women’s and children’s rights, improvement of the situation in development of national minorities, extension of informal education, interactive and edutainment methods of training, exchange of information and experience.

Activities of the organization are directed to building and sustaining a close cooperation between nongovernmental organizations, the state and the business sectors at a regional and local level, and to establishing a dialog between the government and the civil society.

The Democratic Action holds theoretical and practical scientific conferences, workshops, seminars, trainings, press-conferences and Internet-projects, contributes to creation and distribution of informatively and analytically meaningful printed matter, conducts independent sociological public opinion polls and surveys, establishes and maintains international contacts.

The main directivity vector of our activity implies Ukrainian regions. The APO “Democratic Action” holds roundtables, seminars, conferences in all regional centers of Ukraine and in the city of Sevastopol.

The events implemented by the APO “Democratic Action” are attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine, Regional State Administrations of Ukraine, envoys of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Ukraine, famous politicians and public figures.

The Democratic Action pays much attention to topics of the national security of Ukraine and its integration into European and world security agencies. Representatives of the Democratic Action are convinced that cooperation with the NATO countries in the military domain will also promote political and economic cooperation, which will enhance general democratization of the society.

Of much importance for the “Democratic Action” are topics of the economic development of Ukraine, adherence to human rights, struggle against corruption and aspirations for the Ukrainian national and cultural identity. Throughout the organization functioning period, members of the Democratic Action have sustained and developed good relationships with leading Ukrainian and foreign public organizations, analytical centers and mass media. The Democratic Action is steadily expanding its cooperation with local and international partners.
